Most people would like to give more money to charity. It gives us a sense of well being to know that we are helping those less fortunate than ourselves. However, many of us simply cannot afford to donate our money. It isn’t that we are cheap or selfish. It’s simply a fact that we have enough trouble paying our bills as it is. There just isn’t anything left at the end of the month for donations. There is, however, another option. You see, while the charities would no doubt prefer a car that actually runs so that they can go on and resell it to raise funds, you can also donate a non-running car. They can then sell these on to scrap metal merchants.

What about the cost of towing it away? What if you don’t have enough money to have it towed to the charity or scrap dealer? Well, you can still donate your car. Many charities will happily cover the cost of towing your donated car away with no cost at all to yourself. Even better than that is the fact that you can often claim the value of the car as a deduction against your taxes since it was a charitable donation. Once you donate your car you should let your tax advisor know so he or she can add the deduction to your next tax return. So, what are you waiting for?
